This week at the H/O

Hey hey hey!
It’s that time of the week again to see what is happening at The Hideout…
David Vandervelde has a unique approach to rock and roll. Through his honest lyrics and spiraling guitars, the multi-instrumentalist has gained comparisons to Neil Young and Mark Bolan. And his various musical talents put him on another plane completely. This Friday he will share the stage with local favorites Psychic Friends at 10pm.
Delicacy and precision–not the first words you’d expect from a rock and roll description, but the young professionals of Radiation City are here to prove you wrong. Complete with beautiful arrangements and sparse tempos, these Portlanders craft simple lullabies that could pass for late-60s psychedelia. Esta Viva and Whisker Music open this Saturday at 9 pm.
For the late show on Saturday come down to the Hideout for the Life During Wartime Dance Party as we prove that this is, in fact, a party. And a disco. 11:30 pm.
Sunday is the first ever Bike-In Movie Theater event here at the Hideout!  We will be screening Guy Maddin’s magnificent  ‘Brand Upon The Brain‘ on a large screen outside under the stars and will have a live FM broadcast, so bring on your boomboxes, ghetto blasters, and transistor radios. Snacks are also highly recommended. Oh yeah, and it is FREE!!! ETA: People are seriously stoked about this.
Mondays with Robbie continues this week. You know him, you love him. So stop in around 7pm and say hi! Jon Spiegel will start the night off with some raunchy slide guitar.
Hot Grits! follows Robbie featuring, this week, the hip-hop/funk/gospel/soul project Sssnake. This one, you don’t want to miss. 10 pm, and just $2.
On Tuesday our friends at Kartemquin Films — creators of Hoop Dreams and a legion of other paradigm-shifting films —  invite you to help celebrate 45 years of award-winning documentary filmmaking. Various DJs will be spinning vintage vinyl from 1966 till the present at 9 pm.
And, lastly, for this week’s installment of the Immediate Sound Series, the Hideout welcomes the Harrison Bankhead Sextet. “If you’ve got a taste for adventurous jazz, you’re probably already familiar with Harrison Bankhead,” says Bill Meyer in this week’s Reader, adding that the bassist “plays Mingus-like swing, jovial calypso, and blown-out free jazz with equal aplomb.” Fellow Reader critic Peter Margasak DJs between sets.
And finally we still have some tickets left for our big 15th anniversary Block Party blowout on Saturday September 24th. Don’t hesitate on getting those tickets since this amazing show is likely to sell out soon!
