Hello Hideout fans
We only have 2 more weeks of our beautiful Hideout Riverwalk space left being open! Time is a-wasting and the weather is still beautiful so be sure to come out. We now have a big screen projector and will be showingCubs, Blackhawks and Bears games, check out our Facebook and Twitter to learn when the next game will be on. We are also featuring some beef and vegetarian chili on our menu!
Tonight at the Riverwalk we have the jazz stylings of The Changeable Trio, tomorrow Austin troubadourMichael Fracasso stops in for a set, Friday is the legendary Mekons and Waco Brothers co-founder Jon Langford. On Sunday, get ready to dance with Rosie and the Rivets as they play the hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Monday local finger-picker Johnny Young performs with a full band and Tuesday is the romp and stomp ofDevil in a Woodpile.
And next Saturday, October 24th, we are taking part in the Chicago Cultural Mile Halloween Parade! Come to the Hideout Riverwalk at 3pm for free beer and chili! Then join us as we march together at 5pm from the Riverwalk to Columbus Ave and Balbo in Grant Park. The official parade starts there at 6pm. Wear a costume of your favorite dead Chicagoan, and have fun with us!
Here’s whats happening at ol’ Wabansia Ave.
Tonight, Resonance Series presents a couple of out of towners! We have Cleveland’s Forest Managementwith environmental ambient sounds and Seattle duo Boreas. Local band Haptic is joined tonight bypercussionist MIKE WEIS, whose wide range of influences encompass everything from experimental composition to traditional African and Korean drumming styles. Brian Case kicks off the evening.
Thursday, we have Devil in a Woodpile featuring original member Tom Ray as a special treat. Sure to be some tunes that we haven’t heard in a while tonight so come out for this rare appearance!
Later, we get experimental with the sounds of YAIRMS/Alhhla from North Carolina. It will be soothing but definitely unique. Opening up is the psychedelic punk rock of Strange Faces and the noisy rock of High Priests.
Friday, we welcome back Funny Ha Ha after a brief hiatus. Glad to have these great comedians back! Tonight features, Schadenfreude’s Kate James, Novelist Rebecca Makkai, The Kates’ Kelsie Huff, Star-maker and Cat-drawer Steve Gadlin, “Pop Goes Alicia”‘s Alicia Swiz and filmmaker Steve Delahoyde.
Later, CHIRP Radio is throwing a home-coming rally benefit with the looper Netherfriends and the indie pop ofSoft Speaker. What’s a home-coming rally without cheerleaders? Not much, which is why the Chicago Spirit Brigade will be rah-rah-sis-boom-bahing us throughout the night! GlitterGuts will be on hand to snap your photos. This will be a fun one!
Saturday, we have Californians Planet Booty to shake our back room up! Planet Booty is probably not what you think it is. If you haven’t yet experienced the infectious power of their live shows, or danced and sweated along with these impressively talented musicians… then you don’t quite have the full picture yet. Their original music uses electronics and live instrumentation to create a driving electro/funk/RnB blend inspired by classics like Miami Bass, Prince & Talking Heads. Abstract Giants opens up and DJ Castle is on the decks to keep you moving between sets.
Our dance party kicks off at midnight with DJ Gloria Vanderbilt and Pandabrand. Get up, get down and get low! DJ Gloria Vanderbilt and Pandabrand swirl up a tasty mix of hip hop, r&b, funk, disco and house to keep things cooking on the dance floor.
Sunday we are closed.
Monday, we have Mr. and Mrs. Wednesday Night! Join us for a one-of-a-kind experience: Mr. and Mrs. Wednesday-Night is a mostly-improvised, old-school couple’s variety hour that lives in a parallel universe somewhere between Sonny & Cher and Comedy Bang Bang, featuring special guests aplenty and more fun than we could possibly explain.
Tuesday, Write Club brings a Halloween themed monster clash of local writers where you decide the winner! Tonight features Beth Dugan (WHISPER) vs. Richard Joyce (SCREAM), Gina Watters (CRADLE) vs. Lily Be (GRAVE), & Ian Belknap (SKIN) vs. Corrbette Pasko (BONES) battling it out for the coveted Loving Cup of Deathless Fecking Glory!
Later, V4MEE continues their Tuesday night Residency! These have been a blast so far and tonight’s the third edition! If you haven’t been to one of these shows yet, be prepared to laugh, dance and rock out with one of Chicago’s best bands.
