Hi there friends! And happy March 🙂 Tonight our weekly Soup and Bread begins at 5:30. Come treat your taste buds to our delicious smorgasbord of homemade soups! Tonight’s proceeds benefit the Kovler Center which assists individuals recovering from the complex consequences of torture. Later, Chuck Sudo- of Chicagoist magazine- will lead a discussion with three of Chicago’s most distinguished artists who have led remarkably interesting lives. Art Shay, Tony Fitzpatrick and Dmitry Samarov have works hanging in galleries all over the country. Individually, their art takes different form- from photography to painting to printing making. Yet, they have one very important thing in common. That is, Chicago as their muse. Come out to hear how this great city has shaped their lives and great works! Thursday, The Cactus Blossoms with Joel Patterson and Beau Sample will kickoff the evening at 6pm in the front room. This traditional country band nicely balances their setlist of old favorites with fresh originals true to their country/western swing roots. The two lead singers, who happen to be brothers, will hypnotize you with their incredibly tight harmonies and intense musicality! Later, we will welcome Chicago’s own Laura Joy to our stage for her EP Release Party! The talented singer-songwriter has made a name for herself with her percussive finger picking and vocal style resembling that of Joni Mitchell and Alison Krauss. She will have all new songs and a new band in tow. Will Phalem and his band will follow with their psychedelic folk rock beats, reminiscent of San Francisco in the sixties. They will also have new material for ya’ll! Friday, for our early show we will host the wonderfully weird and hilarious comedic act, The Best of Kill All Comedy, in the front room. Come out and be humored by some of the most innovative jokesters in the scene! Later, we have Andrew Sa on the bill. The San Francisco native turned Chicagoan is a truly unique artist. His sweetly mellow melodies mixed with sincere lyrics are sure to calm while simultaneously lift your soul. Afterwards, Wes Perry will bring a comedic twist to the evening. As one of Chicago’s leading comedians, you are sure to leave feeling high on laughing gas! Saturday, AXIS: SOVA will dazzle us with their 2nd LP, this time with a full band. Once solely composed of guitarist Brett Sova and a drum machine, he has now added bass and another guitar. The band is known for their nomadic guitar tones and one-note philosophy. Toupee band will follow, which has a grunge rock/early metal sound with a heavy electric, distorted guitar presence placed perfectly under cool female lead vocals. The Hecks will finish off the night, a two man heavy rock show consisting of guitar and drums. Dance party will begin promptly at midnight! Back by popular demand is our queer bash. Chances Dances will lead the party for our LGBTIQ community here in Chicago. All gender expressions welcome! Sunday, will be our Harmonica Hoedown, a wildly fun mash-up of expert harmonica players representing a plethora of musical genres! Come out and delight your ears to all the different across the board- from cajun to celtic to blues and folk! Monday, Robbie Fulks will serenade us with some much loved western swing. An expert in this genre, Robbie will take us down south and back in time- surely an enthusiastic and enjoyable start to the week! Tuesday, will be our second week into the Joan of Arc Gang’sResidency who perform various collaborations and side projects featuring different artists. Tonight, Mike Kinsella will play original songs from his new album L’Ami du Peuple, under his alias Owen. His music falls under the indie folk rock category and with his most recent album, Kinsella says he let a number of musical influences guide his writing, maintaining an “anything goes” mindset. It shall truly make for an interesting listen! Jeremy Boyle, both artist & musician, will also be featured this evening. His artwork, which has appeared in exhibits all over the country, has to do mainly with sound and technology. Additionally, the show will feature a few short films presented by Todd Mattei, readings from featherproof books and a DJ. And a special heads up for you, win a trip to see Van Morrison in his hometown here! See you soon! The Hideout |
