Hello Friends!
Awesome things going on this week at the Hideout so stop on by!
Tonight, in conjunction with Immediate Sound Series we present Nature of the Drum. A night of heavy percussion mind-expansion, with a rhythmic groove foundation is in store. Featuring Mac McNeilly of The Jesus Lizard on drums, Gorgon Patriarca of The Remainders and David Suycott of XMARSX on percussion this set will be a face-melter. Dave Rempis and Frank Rosaly open up. Show starts a little earlier at 9pmtonight.
Thursday, we have The Flat Five in the house. Featuring Scott Ligon, Nora O’Connor, Kelly Hogan, Casey McDonough, Alex Hall and Gerald Dowd this is a Hideout family favorite. If you are unfamiliar Robbie Fulksbreaks it down for you here: “Chicago’s roots-pop gene pool has been skimmed, and the group calling itselfThe Flat Five is the happy result. With the natural gift to blend into almost any musical terrain, these five masters roam at will from the Beach Boys to the Magnetic Fields, ancient country to neo-cabaret, gently melodic originals to gruesome old Americana. Left to their own devices, they get busy translating feeling into tone, improvising gorgeous harmonic structures and grooves, and poking curiously into posterity’s dusty little corners.”
Friday, we have Kill All Comedy. The best and weirdest of Chicago’s alt sketch comedy scene this collective are not to be missed! Come live, laugh and get weird with this mad geniuses of the chuckles.
Later, we have the awesome Mutts and The Claudettes. It’s a night of foot stomping almost neo-cabaret style music with roots in Tom Waits and The Afghan Whigs these two unique bands represent the best of the Chicago indie music scene. Traveling Suitcases opens.
Saturday, we are closed for a private event.
But we open back up at 11:45 for our weekly DANCE PARTY! This week the DJs are DJ Food Fight who will be spinning the best in soul, pop and dance to burn off those extra calories to get your beach body in order!
Sunday, we celebrate the end of a month long residency with Eleventh Dream Day. They’ve been blowing the roof off the place all month long with new and old tunes alike. Tonight they are joined by The Father Costume. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s your last chance!
Monday, we have an awesome double bill with Circuit des Yeux and Dawn of Midi. From the noisy abstraction of Circuit des Yeux to the tight minimalism of Dawn of Midi these are two critical darlings that are on their way up! Be sure to see them in our intimate room while you can.
Tuesday, at 7, we have Fictlicious. Fictlicious are live events featuring writers reading original short fiction, and musicians performing original music and creative covers, all based upon a theme. The theme this month is “Must be the Money!” featuring Christine Sneed, Sarah Illiatovitch-Goldman, Matt Heimer, Jeff Loibl, Liam Davis, The Paver, Adam Michaels and Micki LeSueur.
