Later, the Immediate Sound Series presents Johnston/Ochs/Rempis. Two sets with Darren Johnston on trumpet, Larry Ochs on reeds and Dave Rempis on saxophones.
Thursday, we are honored to have the record release of The Horse’s Ha‘s second album Waterdrawn. Members, Janet Bean and James Elkington, harken back to their roots as an acoustic guitar and voice duo. The Horse’s Ha wrote a collection of songs that is remenincent of the British folk boom without replicating it and points the group in a new direction. Read this fantastic piece from the Chicago Reader in preperation. Nathan Salsburg opens.
Friday we kick things off with the hilarious Kill All Comedy showcase. Kill All Comedy is a comedy collective and showcase displaying Chicago’s best and strangest minds in the scene. Kill All Comedy is also a record label, a website and a video production company.
Later Secret History of Chicago Music and Roctober present a Night of Mystery and Comedy. We are honored to present the first ever show of Athanor. This obscure psych-pop duo split the difference between the British Invasion and Amon Duul II on three mid-70s singles. They have an LP reissue on the acclaimed Guerssen label of all their singles. Opening is “enviromedian” James Wesley Jackson, who was the opening act for Funkadelic in the late 60s and early 70s. Mr. Lee and the Rearrangers Band and T. Valentine open.
Saturday afternoon we are closed for a private event and open up at 6:00.
Saturday night we go electro with Glass Lux. Formed in October 2010 when producer/DJ Alfonso Mayen met vocalist Emily Morse. Known as “Le Fonz” around his hometown Chicago, Alfonso started playing and writing music at a young age, going on to play in various local bands such as Perfect Kiss and The Last one. Opening is Taught Abroad, the one-man recording project of Chris Sadek, a Chicago singer, musician and producer and Grandkids.
Our Saturday Night Dance Party is an awesome collaboration with Le Fonz, Psalm One and Fess Grandiose.
Sunday we have Making Out with Wes Perry and Friends. Making Out With Wes Perry And Friends, the uniquely curated event that integrates improvisation, sketch, and standup comedy with storytelling, performance art, and drag, will be at The Hideout.
Monday we have a a reunion of the fantastic reading series Quickies. Its a showcase for very short prose, no poetry, no excerpts, no cheating. Readers are Matt Trupia, Kyle Beachy, Jill Summers, Jonathan Messinger, Chris Terry, Natalie Edwards, Jac Jemc, Zach Dodson, Aaron Burch, Samantha Irby, Mary Hamilton, Lindsay Hunter, and their faithful mascot, Tobias Bengelsdorf.
Later we have Rick Sherry and Joel Paterson of Devil in a Woodpile on their last night of their month long residency. If you missed any this month be sure to come on out and join the fun!
