Summer is winding down (sniff) but September is looking STUPID. Enjoy your lazy days while you can, because after Labor Day your social calendar is booked, my people.
On September 6 we have the @MAYOR EMANUEL BOOK EVENT!, our first-ever party celebrating a book based on a Twitter feed, and to judge from the way the internet is already blowing up, it’s going to be epic. Get your tickets now to join author Dan Sinker, guests Megan Stielstra and Dmitry Samarov, poets from Louder Than a Bomb, DJ John Tolva, and a Very Special Guest performing, ahem, the music of the Black Eyed Peas. Only $5! Proceeds benefit Young Chicago Authors.
On September 9 our friends at Bloodshot Records — getting in on the action of this special-event-mad month — are celebrating their 17th anniversary, the Hideout’s 15th anniversary and the release of “No One Got Hurt,” the live album recorded at the Hideout during THEIR 15th anniversary. Phew. Once you finish solving for X in that story problem, you can see that this is going to be a great show, with the Waco Brothers, the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, Nora O’Connor and Danny Black, and the Deadstring Brothers.
And that’s just a warmup to the rest of the weekend, when the Onion AV Club takes over Wabansia Street September 10 and 11 for the AV Fest. Headliners are Hum, on the 10th, and Archers of Loaf, on the 11th. Plus, many more bands! And food trucks! Tickets — $10 suggested donation to benefit Rock for Kids — available at the door.
And, of course, that’s all just to get you flexible for the main event, our very own Hideout Block Party, celebrating the Hideout’s 15 years serving shots of fun, on September 24. Andrew Bird! Booker T. Jones! MAVIS! Tickets are going fast — get them while you can!
