May 10th – “Let’s Get Working” – The Concert presented by The Hideout and Jane-Adams Hull House Museum
Labor activists at the turn of the century used protest songs to spread their message, a tactic that allowed workers to tell their own stories and broadly disseminate the ideals of the movement. The Studs Terkel Festival, the Logan Center for the Arts, the Hideout, and the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum have asked diverse musicians from across the city of Chicago to use the lyrics, music, and stories of five iconic labor songs as inspiration for new music. The project will culminate in a performance at the Logan Center on May 10, and will live on as part of the next Unfinished Business exhibition at Hull-House.
