I know, it’s true … we live to serve our lovely patrons, to take their money and make them tasty drinks and let them know when the tamale guy is here. Still, there are rare moments when we are forced to tear ourselves away from the bar. Here’s what some of us have been doing to stay out of trouble, and off antidepressants.
Bartender Andrea has been busily frolicking with woodland creatures — and painting them silver and installing them in empty lots.
Cocktailer Lily has been pulling on a blue unitard every week as part of the cast of Superman 2050, which has gotten some great reviews during its run at Donny’s Skybox Theater, including this one from the Trib’s Nina Metz. It runs just two more weekends, closing Saturday, June 18.
Sound guy Ryan — who you may recognize from such bands as Sonoi and Can.Ky.Ree. — is heading out on the road with Chris Mills for a mid-June east coast tour; they come home to play the H/O on June 24.
Nat has effed off to Europe to roadie for Tyler and Stephen.
Other sound guy Joey and his band Cloudbirds play the Old Town Art Fair at 5 pm on June 12. And every third Tuesday of the month the band hosts an evening of acoustic music with special guests at the Burlington, 3425 W. Fullerton. On the 16th they’re bringing in Adam Fitz and DJ Black Squirrel.
And I (Martha) just put the finishing touches on a new edition of the Soup & Bread Cookbook, to be published in November by Evanston-based Agate Publishing — more on that as we get closer to publication!
In the meantime, come check out the new putting green on the newly verdant Hideout patio. We’ll surely be back to work by the time you get there.
