Ages 21 and up
Friday, September 13, 2024
Show: 9pm // Doors: 8:30pm
The Singer and The Song features three full sets of music for dancing, drinking and listening, with the exciting bonus of a new song from each band, written from a word prompt given in advance. The artists also pay tribute to Chicago’s music roots by covering a song by another Chicago artist, present or past.  At its heart, this series is a showcase for the incredible songwriting talent of the Chicago music scene, with an emphasis on Country, but including the broadest definitions of Americana.

The monthly event is hosted by one of the show’s co-founders, Brandon Good, Lawrence Peters, Matt Gandurski or Russell Walker, each a key player in Chicago’s music community.

Reilly Downes & The Acid Cowboys

Reilly Downes has long been known as the Sad Cowgirl of Chicago. An Americana artist hailing from the Texas Hill Country, she cut her teeth as a session musician in Nashville, singing behind some of Americana’s favorite singer/songwriters.

Reilly’s first solo album, Spent, earned her the #1 spot for Americana releases in 2022 as well as features on The Boot among other Americana and Country covering media. Shortly after, her haunting rendition of “Wicked Game” has landed her radio play, a feature on Spotify’s “Vibes” playlist, and more.

After a quieter 2023, Reilly exploded out the gate in 2024 singing alongside Jaime Wyatt, Brennen Leigh, Kaitlin Butts, Lamont Landers and more being described as “small, but mighty” with a voice and persona gaining her festival and Rolling Stone recognition.

The Part Timers

The Part Timers formed in 2022 and began playing shows in 2023. The band had a rotating cast of members throughout the spring and summer, but settled into their current lineup in the fall of 2023 to record their debut ep ‘Clock In’. The EP was a stepping stone towards a sound which they are now honing in on – pulling from roots rock, 90’s alt country, and indie rock, The Part Timers form a musical palette which weaves its way in and around the storied and expansive tradition of twangy rock n roll.

Matt Gandurski is a songwriter and musician from the south side of Chicago. As former host and curator of the Songwriter’s Workout at the Lagunitas Taproom, he draws from a diverse repertoire of songs rooted in the traditions of America’s earliest country, blues, and gospel music. Listeners can expect an eclectic set, with Gandurski joined by members of Grit & The Double Knit, The Lawrence Peters Outfit and others.
