David Singer & The Sweet Science

David Singer‘s first record, The Cost Of Living, was recorded in the middle of the night in a makeshift studio in the back corner of a warehouse in an industrial park. It is the sound of the first wave of digital recording technology trying to wrap its robot fingers around old-fashioned pop songwriting, and its tape loops and acoustic guitars and trombone solos combined to make a singular, peculiar record that continues to find fans around the world. Since that time, David and his band The Sweet Science have gone on to make 5 more LPs and played hundreds of shows in places large and small – but their very first show, for the release of TCOL, was at The Hideout on 12/17/99.
This 25th Anniversary Show will be filled with old favorites and deep cuts, including songs from that 1999 experiment and every record since, including their new single “Crashing”.
Time and Tide wait for no man.

Snake Pond emerged from the Chicago indie scene as a force to be reckoned with. The five-piece, led by a pair of lead singers, weave their collective sound between twangy folk and hooky rock with equal parts grit and groove.
On their 2022 debut EP Thelma Lou, Snake Pond reckons with love, loss, and what might happen if all the fish in the sea grew legs, sung over a bed of punchy drums and wistful pedal steel licks.
In advance of their upcoming sophomore EP, Snake Pond recently released the single “Gold,” a tightly arranged piece of crunchy, feedback-laden pop-rock.
