Summer’s almost here (RIGHT?) and that means it’s time to sign up for a CSA box. This year, the Hideout’s home to not one but two farms offering the bounty of their harvest straight off the truck to you. Peasants’ Plot will be dropping off boxes for their CSA subscribers at the bar from 4 to 8 pm on Thursdays from mid-June through October. They’ve still got room for more subscribers; an individual share is $320 and gets you an assortment of from 4-7 different types of veggies for 20 weeks straight. And, if you’re into apples, Earth First Farms will also be dropping off shares in their organic apple CSA on Thursdays as well! That runs biweekly from late August through November and nets subscribers a whopping 75 pounds of apples, plus 2 gallons of apple cider, for $85.
And, in case you were wondering, our friend Vera Videnovich, who’s been distributing her CSA bags at the Hideout on Wednesdays for two years running, is focusing on Hyde Park this year. If you’re on the south side you can pick up her heirloom peppers, squash, and other hard-to-find veggies Wednesdays at the Hyde Park Art Center — or look for her throughout the season at the Empty Bottle and Andersonville farmers’ markets.
