This Week at the Hideout

Hello all!
We’ve dug ourselves out from under all this snow and hope you can do the same and come on out!
Tonight we have Soup and Bread at 5:30.  We have great cooks this evening including Local Foods and many friends and employees of the Hideout.  Tonight’s beneficiary is Elam Davis Social Service Center.  It’s a perfect night to come and warm the chill off.
Later, we have Collector’s Edition.  Collector’s Edition is a show about pop music, written and performed by certifiable obsessives. Musicians, writers and performers come together to tell the unheard stories of their favorite albums and artists. Tonight’s theme is  ‘A Little Help From My Friends’ and will explore the influence that friendships have over taste and collaboration in pop music.
Thursday, we have Devil in a Woodpile at 6pm.  They’ve been packing in the place so come on in early because the ragtime, hillbilly and blues they play only lasts for so long!  Been really fun seeing familiar faces back at the Hideout for this.
Later, we have The Western.  The Western is a Chicago-based post-rock outfit whose new album “On Top of the World and Never Ever Looking Back Again, Ever; Goodbye” has been well received at throughout 2014.  The Western’s overall product is a stellar, multi-layered mix of echo-heavy guitars and vocals that set a mood of enchanting detachment.  Opening up is Impulsive Hearts and Croquet.
Friday, we have The Interview Show hosted by Mark Bazer.  Guests this week include Emily Graslie who’s the host of “The Brain Scoop”, author of “On Immunity” Eula Biss, and TJ Jagodowski and David Pasquesi of the improv duo TJ & Dave and founders of The Mission Theatre at iO.  Music tonight is from She’s Crafty, Chicago’s all-female Beastie Boys tribute.  A true Hideout staple come and laugh, engage and be witness to one of Chicago’s best shows.
Later, we have the a record release party for Pearls Mahone for her newest album “Echoes from the Prairie”. Born to sing and bound to roam, Pearls Mahone is part hard luck crooner and part gospel firebrand. With a firm foundation in traditional church music, she truly sings with spirit. From deep roots she built her repertoire from an early age into a seamless marriage of Soul, Rock & Roll, Rockabilly, Country and Bluegrass.  Gin Palace Jesters kicks things off!
Saturday afternoon is Late Late Breakfast. Chicago’s most off the wall open-mic that includes breakfast!  It’s a really wild show that’s lovely and strange!  Extra bonus is you get to see what the Hideout looks like during daylight hours.  It’s different!
Later, we have another celebration, this time for Smoker, who are halfway through their Monchu project.  Mochu is a Japaneese word meaning “one family” (the Hideout can relate to that) and they are debuting 24 songs in one year and tonight marks the halfway point!  Come get a taste of the psychedelic sound they’ve been working on and hear new tunes.  Last time they played they were 8 tickets away from selling out so get them now!  Marina Orchestra and Wedding Photography open.
Our dance party kicks off at midnight where queer collective Chances Dances keeps your foot moving and your ass shaking until 3 in the morning.  It’s a dance party that brings together the different LGBTIQ communities and cliques across queer Chicago. All gender expressions are welcome.
Sunday, this month’s Get Off the Couch showcase will be headlined by a band that will transport you back to the 80’s – not everything you hated about the 80’s, but the GREAT sound that emerged from guitars, synths, and a lyrical awakening. We are very excited to have Friends of Italian Opera show you what we mean.  Joining ‘FOIO’ in the rounds will be GOTC alumni Michele McGuire, The Kelson Twins, and River Rising . As always,Sam Wahl will be the host with the most and tamales from Dia de los Tamales are served up hot and spicy!
Monday, Robbie Fulks is going to be playing modern sounds with Joel Paterson.  Always a man of wit, great songwriting and controversy, Robbie playing with Joel will be goddamned great!
Tuesday, at 6pm join us for a brilliant concert from Jon Langford and friends in support of re-electing Alderman John Arena.  Be sure to get your tickets today!  Langford and the Hideout means a packed house.
Later, on the second week of Brian Costello’s month long residency we welcome Shame That Tune as they move to late night.  In honor of a 9pm time slot contestants are encouraged to “work blue”.  We won’t hear stories about how someone pooped their pants, we’ll hear about that time they CRAPPED their pants!  The most lovable hosts every Brian Costello and Abraham Levitan hold down the fort!
Two shows every night, sometimes three, we’re keeping busy so hope you can come and enjoy!
