Lots of great stuff this week including the Annual SXSW Sendoff Party on Saturday so be sure to come by
Tonight, at Soup & Bread, our soup cooks get down and dirty with the theme “Roots and Sprouts.” Behind the crocks are Richard Staceiwicz, Simon Tankard, Dan Miller, Daniel Tucker, Niall Munnelly, Alison Scott, and Jack Newell. Our guest DJ is Bloodshot Record’s “Groover Cleveland,” and bread is donated as ever by our pals at Publican Quality Meats. Later, Immediate Sound Series presents Mars Trio with Mars Williams on reeds, Kent Kessler on bass andAvreeayl Ra on the drums.  Two sets and kicking off at 9:30.
Thursday we have Videotape.  Videotape’s sound magnetizes harmony with noise to create driving, slightly melancholic pop.  Going them we have the propulsive piano-driven pop of Impulsive Hearts  and the avant-garde free-flowing songs of She Speaks in Tongues.
Friday, we have a fantastic Interview Show featuring guests Douglas Druick, the Director of the Art Institute Chicago, John Stirratt and Pat Sansone of The Autumn Defense, Mick Dumke and Ben Joravsky of theChicago Reader.  We are also having fresh sketch comedy form Astronaut Theatre.  It will be a great one so stop on in.
Later, we have Will Phalen‘s album release party.  His new full length “The Dirt and the Air and the Grass” creates a world firmly built upon the folk rock foundations of Phalen’s earlier work, but also touched by another set of colors: bold strokes of ambient bliss; vocal harmonies that transport us through the mind of Brian Wilson, across the Atlantic and into the studios at Abbey Road circa 1965; lush drones and a pedal steel guitar flash us back to the collaborations of Lanois and Eno; symphonic strings sing out across a valley of noise before returning us to the lonely tones of an acoustic guitar.  Comedian Adam Burke opens along with a set fromFemale Basic.  DJ Warp will keep the party going into the night.
Saturday, be sure to come to our Annual SXSW Sendoff Party!  It is a fantastic line-up with a lot of variety so come by and see your new favorite band or stay for the whole day.  Proceeds from the event go directly to the bands to help them get down to Austin and represent the amazing music scene here in Chicago.

Monday, we present J A Cohen with his clever lyrics, roots in country and power pop, and a thrashy stage presence.  Opening up is Jane Baxter Miller.
Tuesday is the second night of Julie Pomerleau‘s month-long Residency.  Tonight she is featuring The Chamber Ensemble with Jim Cooper (Detholz!), Billie Howard (Paver, Girl Group Chicago), Ronnie Kuller (Mucca Pazza), George Lawler and Eve Monzingo (both of Lamajamal and Byzantine Beat Machine.)  Last night was beautiful and the music will enrapture you again on these nights.
