This Week At The Hideout…

Hey Hey Everyone,
The picture above is from last year’s Block Party and we are VERY close to selling out this year’s biggest and best Block Party to date! For those of you that have bought tickets already, we thank you, but for those of you that haven’t gotten your tickets yet, we highly recommend snagging some here before they are all gone in the next week or so.  We’ll be releasing a very limited  amount of single day tickets when we announce the set-times next week.
We’ve got another action packed week over here at the Hideout so let’s get into it…
Tonight we start off with Hideout Veggie Bingo at 5:30pm and then at 9:30pm the Immediate Sound Series presents a rare appearance by The Chicago Trio — Ernest Dawkins Harrison Bankhead, Hamid Drake, and a DJ Sets by Mariapaz Camargo spinning ¡Chao Espana! – A Celebration of 102 Years of Colombia’s Independence.
Thursday we present a very special show by Billy Blake & The Vagabonds who have written 15 songs using the words of 18th century Romantic mystic William Blake from his famous collection of poems “Songs of Innocence and Experience”. These are contemporary interpretations of Blake’s classic works, drawing from Stones-y rock, mellow pop and countrified folk, to gospel music and hopping Bo Diddley blues. The song forms employed by the Vagabonds breathe new fire and meaning into William Blake’s iconic words and help to re-illuminate his incendiary visions for the modern listener. Jim Becker & Joe Adamik support, along the screening of the 1977 short film “William Blake” by British filmmaker Sheila Graber.
Friday the early show is Jon Langford & Martin Billheimer Story Night.  Chapter 3: Boxing will feature tales of unspeakable abominations and perversity read aloud in an intimate Gothic setting! Deeply unhappy hour at the Hideout!  Feel the chilling power of the spoken word!

Later that evening as the beautiful poster above shows, Panoramic & True will be celebrating their record release with us.  They’ve put together a great lineup with one of our favorite Chicago bands, Reds & Blue, and one Philadelphia’s finest, Arc In Round.  This one is not to be missed!
Saturday we’ve got a private party early in the evening but The Hideout Saturday Night Dance Party will be pretty heavy with DJ Ben Fasman bringing all the hits to keep you dancing all night long!

Sunday we couldn’t more excited to welcome “home” Kelly Hogan for two shows!  The first show is SOLD OUT, and we have less than 15 tickets left for the second show so get em’ now!  Also if you haven’t picked up her fantastic new album on Anti records, I Like To Keep Myself In Pain, we can’t recommend it enough. Her dear pal Chris Scruggs opens both shows who The Washington Post aptly described as “part John Lennon pop and part Milton Brown western swing with a little bit of White Stripes edginess.”  It’s going to be a memorable show to say the least and we may have a few tickets to release online and at the door the day of the show so keep any eye out!
Tuesday we’ve got Fictlicious returning to the stage and Leroy Bach wielding his axe in the front bar later that evening.

Finally just a quick reminder that HAIR: The American tribal love-rock musical is coming to The Hideout August 24-26.
Who’s ready to let the sun shine in? The Hideout is staging a five-performance production of HAIR – The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical on August 24th, 25th and 26th. The 1967 musical tells the story of “the tribe”: a group of bohemian, long-haired hippies opposing the Vietnam War draft during the Age of Aquarius in New York City.
 
HAIR is brought to you by The Hideout Players (producers Kate Urcioli and Rob Allen, director Sarah Giocomo, and assistant director Gabriel Wallace), whose 2009 production of Little Shop of Horrors was received with much critical applause; TimeOut Chicago praised the musical for successfully blending “a curiously infectious barroom-meets-community-theater vibe with a high level of artistic accomplishment.” Nothing less should be expected from this next undertaking, as is evident in their recruitment of musical director Bobby Conn. Conn will lead a live ‘pit band’ featuring beloved Chicago musicians Ronnie Kuller (Mucca Pazza, Ami Saraiya & The Outcome, Daniel Knox), Paul Brannon (Mucca Pazza, Ssion), and Paul Parts (Daniel Knox).
