Chicago Psych Fest: Night Two

Hideout and Chicago Psych Fest are pleased to announce the FIFTEENTH anniversary of Chicago Psych Fest, an annual freaky tradition that continues to grow and include all kinds of heady music-including psych pop, avant drone, synthy soundscapes, acid rock shreds, astral folk, cosmic jazz, cerebral art punk, and genres yet unnamed.

For this special 15th  anniversary, a who’s who of the Chicago underground was assembled, with Friday leaning on legacy artists like brutal prog/no wave legends the Flying Luttenbachers and mutant groovy popster Bobby Conn, both of whom have been celebrated for their unique musical madness since the 90s. Joining that cast is famed electronica/film score/noise rocker James Marlon Magas, collaborating with To Is, and openers The Shape of, which has members of longtime beloved local acts Dead Rider and Joan of Arc.

Night 2 features smooth sensations Bronze (with musicians from longtime Windy City bands like Axis Sova, 1900s, Michael Columbia, Mahjongg, and Cave) diverting into a unique set of edgy 80s movie soundtracks like Cat People, Manhunter, and To Live and Die in LA. Pop-psychsters HEAD have been laying down their brand of spacey chooglin for several years, and the first-time duo of viola goddess Whitney Johnson (aka Matchess) and cello/synths/vocalist Taralie Peterson (of Spires That in the Sunset Rise/Tekla Peterson) will surely surprise and reach for the heavens. Opening Saturday is kosmische travelers Spiral Galaxy, featuring Psych Fest organizer Plastic Crimewave and painter/flautist Sara Gossett, joined by special guests Jimmy Lacy aka ambient voyaging SiP, and country weirdo-polymath Lawrence Peters on his minimal percussion, including washboard!
