Rude Boy (Rhianna Cover) by Anni Rossi by PMA
Quite a weekend ahead. Here’s a bunch-o-stuff that will get you busy with events which are top banana.
1. Tonight, Thursday, Anni Rossi here at ye ol’ Hideout. Listen to that cover. Anni is delightful. That track above (thx MTV Hive) is lush. Show details here.
2. Thursday, through May 22, Theater Oobleck’s There Is A Happiness That Morning Is by Mickle Maher. Our own Martha Bayne, the woman behind the curtain of Soup N’ Bread, designed the lights, as she has for many of Oobleck’s amazing creations. To my mind they have been a major Chicago theater staple for many years, and never disappoint – especially when they’re doing a Mickle script. An Apology for the Course & Outcome of Certain Events Delivered by Doctor John Faustus on This His Final Evening was a solid hit, The Strangerer was a solid hit, The Hunchback Variations was a solid hit. GO SEE THIS NEW ONE!
3. Saturday, celebrate Record Store Day @ Saki Records.
What is record store day you ask?
This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.
Saki Records on Fullerton near Logan Square is having a day of great live in-store music, and the Hideout is well represented. Jeanine’s band The 1900s play around 3p, and Andrea’s band Rabid Rabbit plays around 5p. Chaperone and In Tall Buildings are two other fav’s in a stellar all-day lineup.
In Tall Buildings – 12pm
Bob Dey’s Tank Engine Man – 1pm
Chaperone – 2pm
The 1900s – 3pm
This Is Cinema – 4pm
Rabid Rabbit – 5pm
Distractions – 6pm
From Andrea; “these set times are the closest to reality as i could surmise, so plan on a bit of flexibility.”
Get out there!
