Color Green

For the California-based quartet Color Green, playing music together is all about stepping into the unknown. “When we play live, I don’t really know what’s going to happen,” says Noah Kohll, one of the band’s two guitarists and four vocalists. Their word-of-mouth reputation as a dynamic and unpredictable live act has quickly grown, grounding their cosmic jams in earthy melodies while drawing from a wide range of influences, including ‘60s SoCal folk-rock, ‘70s classic rock, and ‘90s psychedelic dance-rock. Adaptable onstage and off, Color Green has shared stages with a diverse array of groups, showcasing the sophistication and wild malleability of their sound. They see boundless possibilities from one note to the next, anchoring their music in the urgent present rather than the distant past, which allows them to embody a multitude of styles without losing their essential hue.

Their latest album, Fool’s Parade, serves as a meditation on loss, grief, and the clarity that arises from these emotions. With the dynamic feel of a tight live set, the album features quiet moments like the haunting “5:08” alongside reckless jams such as “Kick the Bucket.” Each track reflects the band’s collaborative spirit, showcasing their range and the depth of their connection. “We spent a lot of time getting our shit together as a band, and now it’s set in stone for me,” notes guitarist Corey Madden. Starting out as a limited project in New York, the band has evolved through various phases, incorporating new members and influences. Their journey has culminated in an album that balances both personal and collective experiences, allowing for moments of vulnerability and catharsis that resonate deeply with both the band and their audience.

Glyders

Formed in Chicago by partners Josh Condon and Eliza Weber, Glyders make maximal minimal rock and roll with nocturnal mystery pulsing in the mix, cutting above rigorous roadhouse fare with sounds that twist and grind on their classic inspirations. Joined by Joe Seger on drums, Glyders’ high lonesome way is mellow but nervy, hip-shaking and deep – a multicolored trip to the ongoing beat of American weirdness. Their debut LP “Maria’s Hunt” is out now on Country Thyme/Drag City.
