As you see above, we hope that you can join us this week to wind down 2012 with all of these extra special shows we’ve got lined up!
Tickets are selling very fast (or are sold out already!) for all of them so we highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance.
Tonight & Thursday the Immediate Sound Series presents a rare appearance for two nights by The DKV Trio. We are always elated to have Ken Vandermark, Hamid Drake, and Kent Kessler on stage performing their highly emotional and energetic sets for us! These will be partially seated shows so get here early if you’d like a chair.
Friday we start off the evening a holiday edition of our favorite literary death match Write Club. Your ticket also includes a some tasty treats after the show that they’ll be providing.
Later that night we are excited to have Ezra Furman & His Band and Heligoats. In what is now becoming a tradition around here, Ezra Furman is presenting an intimate evening with his new band and Chris Opteka of Heligoats will have a full band with their lush pop sounds.
Saturday we couldn’t be happier to host America’s most popular soul party with the one and only Jonathan Toubin Soul Clap & Dance Off!!!
“Jonathan Toubin is the only person we can call a “professional DJ” without involuntarily making a jack-off motion with our hand… His parties are like what Ancient Stonehenge was like if it was, as archaeologists theorize, filled with people dressed many times better than you completely losing their shit.” – Mike de Leon (Vice)
GET DOWN…all night long (9pm – 3am) to the explosive 1960s soul 45s of DJ JONATHAN TOUBIN, a live performance by GIRL GROUP CHICAGO at 10pm, and more soul hits from DJ ROB SEVIER of The Numero Group to start off the evening!
GET IN…the DANCE-OFF for $100 CASH PRIZE determined by judges:
– MISS MIA PARK – Chic-A-GoGo
– RENALDO DOMINO – Chicago Soul Music Legend!
– NATALIE & ELLIOT BERGMAN from Wild Belle
– PSALM ONE – Chicago’s finest female rapper
– JOCLYN BROWN – DJ extraordinaire
Sunday we have a sold out show with The Flat Five. Our pal Robbie Fulks summed up their sound best, “Chicago’s roots-pop gene pool has been skimmed, and the group calling itself The Flat Five is the happy result. With the natural gift to blend into almost any musical terrain, these five masters roam at will from the Beach Boys to the Magnetic Fields, ancient country to neo-cabaret, gently melodic originals to gruesome old Americana. Left to their own devices, they get busy translating feeling into tone, improvising gorgeous harmonic structures and grooves, and poking curiously into posterity’s dusty little corners.”
Monday is our New Year’s Eve show with The Eternals Espiritu Zombie Group. This amazing 10-piece incarnation of the band will only be performing for the 2nd time ever to a live audience and we can’t think of a better way to ring in the new year than with this remarkable and uplifting music. Also on the bill are theChandeliers who have a stellar light show planned for the evening, and will do a DJ set into the early hours of 2013. We’ve got less than 50 tickets left for this final show of the year so don’t delay!
We said it last week and we’ll say it again: Thanks so much for all of your support this year we couldn’t do this all without you. We hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday season.
