This week at the H/O

So much goodness!
Tomorrow evening (Friday) the Interview Show welcomes filmmaker Steve James and author Alex Kotlowitz, the pair behind the new Kartemquin film The Interrupters, as well as rapper Psalm One, novelist Marcus Sakey, and singer-songwriter Krista Detor.
Then, later that night, the Hideout hosts a SPELLING BEE. If you remember the bee from the Bloodshot party a few years back, you’ll know that this is not to be trifled with.
On Saturday (ed: holy sh*t this is going to be incredible) it’s a triple threat of The Horse’s Ha, Antietam, and the blistering guitar duo of Rick Rizzo and Tara Key (with help from 11th Dream Day’s Mark Greenberg). Thrill Jockey just released their instrumental collaboration Double Star, and Rick and Tara talked about their new partnership on WBEZ’s 848 earlier this week. Greg Kot says seeing Tara Key shred can “make a believer out of anyone.” It’s also a record release party for Antietam’s new Carrot Top release, Tenth Life — though the Reader’s Bill Meyer says “it sure don’t sound like they’re on their last life.” And, super bonus, a chance to see the Horse’s Ha, Janet Bean’s broken ankle be damned. The Trib has more on the Ha.
And, if you’re out on the town Friday night stop by Saki, 3716 W. Fullerton, for the opening of “Elemental,” an exhibit of Tara Key’s photography and paintings .
Phew! That was a long one … and that’s only Saturday. Sunday we’ve got the Black Willoughby’s benefit for Keeley Cultra; Monday Robbie Fulks teams up with the incomparable Nora O’Connor; Tuesday sees the return of the Literary Death Match, followed by the lush sounds of Mar Caribe; and then Wednesday the Immediate Sound Series presents the Jason Stein Quartet.
