This Week At The Hideout

Hey Hey Everyone,
Before we get into this week’s upcoming shows, just a heads up that tickets are moving fast for both shows by The dB’s on Thursday, November 15th and Friday, November 16th.   Don’t delay on getting tickets to these extra special concerts featuring the original lineup of the band for the first time in 30 years!

NPR Music said of their current reunion, By what means of dark magic could any group reunite after such a layoff and reproduce anything resembling its previous chemistry? Band reunions come and go, and most often the result is forgettable at best.  Happily and emphatically bucking this trend is the beloved power-pop group The dB’s. Thirty years removed from the last proper release with its original lineup — and 25 years removed from any album at all — the band has pulled together a great new record in Falling Off the Sky, which is utterly worthy of an estimable legacy.”
Tonight the Immediate Sound Series presents The Engines featuring Dave Rempis, Nate McBride, and Tim Daisy.

Thursday we are very excited to host The First Menagerie which is a new series hosted by Michael Phillips featuring long lost films and up and coming bands.  This first edition will feature a screening of the seldom seen 1978 Jamaican docudrama film ‘Rockers’ about a hustler turned record distributor trying to retrieve his stolen motorbike from the mobsters so he can spread the gospel of dubTo make the evening more special, Magical Beautiful will perform a set full of atmospheric music to ease your mind on this early autumn evening.

Friday by way of Brooklyn we host Jukebox: Comedy & Karaoke.  This absurdist hybrid makes it’s Chicago debut and is the brainchild of former Chicagoans Steve Heisler, Steve Jacobs, and Margaret Lyons. This special edition based around the theme of, Reunion, will feature some of Chicago’s finest like Mimi Smartypants, Sean Flannery, Tim Baltz, Megan Mercier, Scott Smith, and more secret guests to be announced the day of the show!

Saturday sees the dynamic and lush sounds of Panoramic and True returning to the Hideout stage after they tore this place up a few months back for their stellar record release party.  This time around they’ve brought with them one of our favorite singer/songwriters in town Thomas Comerford & The Reels who create some of the most moving music we’ve heard in quite some time.  Opening the show is Tatsu Aoki’s Miyumi Project.  This ever evolving group of improvisational musicians led by bassist Tatsu Aoki is one of the most freewheelin’ groups around town that is not to be missed.
Later that evening the dance party this week will be held by none other than the illustrious Life During Wartime Dance Party & Social who will keep the party going all night long!
Monday we’ve got Robbie Fulks back in action performing a duo set with his olde’ pal Robbie Gjersoe.
Tuesday is our favorite literary death match with Write Club, followed by The Dog Patch Ramblers breaking things down in the front bar.
See you soon,
The Hideout
