V.V. Lightbody
V.V. Lightbody is the solo project of Vivian McConnell, a seasoned songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the thriving Chicago music scene. Her self-produced sophomore LP Make a Shrine or Burn It (Acrophase Records) was released with much anticipation in May 2020. Referred to as ”a masterclass in self-reflection and female autonomy,” the first pressing sold out within 24 hours and received critical acclaim from Noisey, Stereogum, Paste, Gold Flake Paint, Chicago Tribune, and more.

Jessi Roti writes of MASOBI, “An album of lingering farewells and cautiously optimistic beginnings punctuated by a deceptive wit, Lightbody – a.k.a. Vivian McConnell – turns her attention inward, exploring what it means to be with yourself after being with another; trading abstract, third-party narratives for those more poignant and conversational.”

V.V. Lightbody has been a collaborator and touring member of bands such as Lala Lala, Divino Niño, Finom, Elizabeth Moen, and recently started a duo called Valebol featuring drummer Daniel Villarreal-Carrillo (Dos Santos). She’s lended flute and vocals to Twin Peaks, Tasha, Tomemitsu, Pool Holograph, and many more. In 2022, V.V. played guitar, keys, and sang in Harry Styles’ band for BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend Festival.

Jackie West’s debut album, “Close to the Mystery,” released on May 10 via Ruination, encapsulates her lifelong mantra encapsulated in the titular lyric, weaving a narrative of searching and self-discovery through masterful baroque-pop compositions. Reflecting diverse influences from bossa nova to shoegaze, the album features a stellar lineup of musicians led by producer Sarah Pedenotti, creating an intuitive flow amidst abstract musical shifts. Recorded live, West’s captivating vocals evoke comparisons to iconic singers like Sibylle Baier and Peggy Lee, anchoring the album’s exploration of transient selves and evolving perspectives.

Rose Hotel

Rose Hotel’s label debut A Pawn Surrender sees Atlanta-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jordan Reynolds claiming her agency with a 10-song set of nuanced indie-rock songcraft that pulls from a palette of psychedelic shimmer and folk influence via her Southeastern roots. With a drive to pay homage to the legends of the art form, she uses the trappings of psychedelic rock not as source material, but as ornamentation, as she explores relationships, feminine rage, lust, temptation, blissful ignorance, frightening apathy, delusions, and illusions.
