Come celebrate 20 years of the Secret History of Chicago Music column in the Chicago Reader! Written/drawn by Plastic Crimewave aka Steve Krakow, nearly 500 SHoCM features have run, covering overlooked Windy City musicians from genres like jazz, soul, blues, experimental, psychedelic, punk and beyond.
We’re honored to have guests like Soul deities with long careers like Renaldo Domino (Numero Group) and Jackie Ross, Aaron Cohen author ofMove On Up: Chicago Soul Music and Black Cultural Power, P. Michael and Travis of experimental Afrofuturists Ono, Synth soundscape pioneer Bil Vermette (who will also do a short performance), Chicago Reader editor Salem Collo-Julin, and Chicago Reader Music Editor of 21 years Philip Montoro– on panels moderated by Plastic Crimewave himself.
