Kelly Hogan and Scott Ligon hit it off right from the start. Friends and musical partners for over 20 years, they were originally thrown together at the last minute to play a set of close-harmony duets in 2003 – a set of blood-relation tunes (Everly Brothers, Louvin Brothers) that Hogan said “was either gonna fly high or fall hard” – and, luckily, fly it did. Hogan and Ligon started playing a weekly duo show at The Hideout shortly thereafter – and then, along with guitar wizard Joel Paterson, formed The Wooden Leg (“jazz with a limp’) – a band that turned their one-month Hideout residency into a two-year weekly stint – and inspired the Hideout’s ever-popular namesake cocktail!
Hogan (Mavis Staples, Neko Case) and Ligon (NRBQ, The Western Elstons) are both in-demand session and touring musicians (and members of Chicago’s twisted sunshine vocal pop supergroup, The Flat Five.) For this duo show they’ll dip way back into their freaking vast 20-year repertoire – including some Wooden Leg favorites – and sing some new tunes too. Right back where it all started – heart and soul HQ – The Hideout.
