In the live show landscape of crowds with their arms crossed and heads nodding, The Heavy Sounds are an instrumental group that almost dare the audience not to dance.
Steeped in the Soul/Jazz and R&B traditions of Booker T and the MG’s, Grant Green, The Meters and Jimmy Smith, The Heavy Sounds testament to instrumental Soul music of the 60’s and early 70’s has quite literally created a band that can say everything while saying nothing.
But these four fantastic musicians are just as comfortable improvising with one another in an instrumental setting as they are backing up amazing soul shouters. For years John Wills(guitar) Dan Ingenthron(keys) Jeremy Kay(bass) and Ryan Juravic(drums) have individually backed up legendary Soul singers like Otis Clay, Syl Johnson, Renaldo Domino, Howard Tate, Irma Thomas, JC Brooks, Lee Fields & The Expressions, and Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens.
